The sterile, single use 71 High Cut-Off Brain Microdialysis Catheter is minimally invasive and designed for implantation in brain tissue. The most important characteristic of the 71 High Cut-Off Brain Microdialysis Catheter is the dialysing membrane that allows diffusion of large molecules such as Cytokines. The membrane has a cut-off of around 100 000 Daltons. The catheter is available in different membrane lengths 10 mm, 20 mm or 30 mm suitable for different target areas in the brain. When implanting the catheter it is first tunnelated under the scalp. It is then easily introduced into the brain with help of a special forceps through a hole drilled in the skull bone.
The tip of the Catheter contains a gold tread, which makes it visible on a CT-scan in order to locate the exact position of the catheter in the brain.
The 71 High Cut-Off Brain Microdialysis Catheter is used with the 106 or 107 Microdialysis Pump. To avoid ultra filtration of the membrane we recommend that the catheter should be perfused with a perfusion fluid containing 30g Dextran 60/1000 mL. The outlet tube of the catheter extends to a holder for a microvial that collects the microdialysis sample.
The microdialysis samples can be analysed in the ISCUSflex Microdialysis Analyser for small metabolites or sent to a laboratory for analysis of large molecules such as Cytokines.
Microdialysis shall not be used as the sole basis for diagnosis or therapy.
Intended Purpose
The Brain Microdialysis Catheter is intended to enable Microdialysis of the extracellular (interstitial) fluid of the brain tissue.
